Can we talk here?
I am not the strongest marketing guy. This is not to say that we haven’t grown the business. Thankfully, we’re going strong and are on track for our best year ever in 2009. As they say, I’d rather be lucky than smart. Rather, I mean that I’ve been really bad about coming up with an elevator pitch or a website that people can get without meeting me. My clients generally come after people have gotten to know me or our willing to give me time for a serious conversation, either through a talk a gave or the recommendation of an associate. On the other hand, the web site just hasn’t projected that same conversational tone. It reads like a marketing pitch and therefore hasn’t really reflected my voice and the voice of the people I’ve hired. It’s a problem. Because I know that I check out the website of every person I meet either on line or in person. And I know I make snap judgments based on what I read. And when I’ve read our site, I’ve thought that it’s well put together and professional but its not me. That needs to change.
So, as I’ve been speaking (and working with my great speaking coach, Laurie Krauz), I’ve come up with something that expresses what we do really simply. I’ve been using the idea in my talks. Simply put, we help people spend less and get more from their software investment. We focus on nuts and bolts accounting systems, custom development and do the occasional general IT management consulting project.
I’m hoping to get basic changes to the site to reflect this. Hopefully, this will be done by January.
